We talk a lot about burgers and chicken sandwiches but there is a whole other world out there on the fast food menu. I recently went on a mission to try twelve different fast-food fish sandwiches that people are always talking about online. Let me tell you some of these were a total catch while others just left me feeling a little bit salty. Here is my honest breakdown of what you should reel in and what you should throw back.
Culver’s North Atlantic Cod

They hand batter this big piece of fish right when you order it and that makes the outside super crispy while the inside stays really flaky. A lot of people absolutely love this one and I can see why because the tartar sauce with sweet relish just hits the spot perfectly.
Popeyes Cajun Flounder Sandwich

This one stands out because they use flounder instead of the usual pollock and it comes with that famous spicy cajun seasoning that Popeyes is known for. The buttery brioche bun and the thick pickles give it a really nice crunch but it might be a little too spicy for some folks.
Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich

Wendy’s uses a panko breading on their wild caught Alaskan pollock and it gives the sandwich a really nice and thick crunch. The fish is decent but I feel like the bun can sometimes get a little soggy if you do not eat it right away.
Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe

Arby’s puts a huge crispy fish fillet on a sweet King’s Hawaiian roll with cheddar cheese and tomatoes which is a pretty unique combo. I think the sweet bread mixed with the salty fish is a really fun taste even if it gets a bit messy to hold.
McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish

You really can not talk about fish sandwiches without bringing up the classic one from McDonald’s because it has been around forever. It is a very simple square patty with half a slice of cheese and a soft steamed bun that brings back a lot of good memories for people.
White Castle Panko Fish Slider

These little sliders are perfect if you just want a quick snack without committing to a giant fast food meal. They use a really nice panko breading and a slice of American cheese that makes them surprisingly tasty for such a small bite.
Burger King Big Fish

Burger King serves up a pretty classic take with sweet tartar sauce and crunchy pickles on a toasted bun. Some folks really swear by this one but for me it was just an okay sandwich that gets the job done when you are hungry.
Dairy Queen Wild Alaskan Fish

A lot of people forget that Dairy Queen even has a fish sandwich. It actually features a pretty thick and crunchy fillet on a soft bun but the fish flavor itself is a little mild so you really have to rely on the tartar sauce.
Long John Silver’s Fish Sandwich

Since this place specializes in seafood you would expect their sandwich to be good and it definitely has that classic fried fish shop flavor. The breading is very crispy and greasy in a good way but the bun can be a bit too big for the actual piece of fish.
Whataburger Whatacatch Sandwich

This sandwich is super popular down south during the spring season. People literally beg them to keep this wild caught pollock fillet on the menu all year long because the fresh lettuce and tomato make it taste a lot lighter than the others.
Habit Burger Baja Crispy Fish

Habit Burger drops this limited time sandwich and it comes with pickled red onions and a cilantro lime coleslaw that makes it feel super fancy. The juice battered cod is super crunchy and those fresh toppings really make it pop if you are looking for something different.
Portillo’s Breaded Whitefish Sandwich

Portillo’s goes all out with a wild caught haddock fillet that is incredibly crispy and fresh tasting right out of the fryer. Their brioche bun is sweet and toasted perfectly making this one of the most premium tasting options you can grab at a drive thru.
