When it comes to American food few things are more iconic than a simple cheeseburger. Many popular sit-down restaurants offer their own versions of this classic comfort food. I looked at a recent taste test of seven national chains to share which one actually serves the best burger.
The Simple Taste Test Rules

This taste test kept things incredibly basic by only adding cheese ketchup mustard and pickles to really focus on the actual meat and bun quality without any crazy distractions. Every single burger was ordered medium rare so the overall flavor and the cooking skills at each restaurant could be judged fairly.
IHOP Brought Up the Rear

The meat on this burger was pretty dry and largely lacked that juicy flavor you really want while the bun was unnecessarily thick and took up way too much space. You are honestly much better off just sticking to their famous pancakes or grabbing something off the breakfast menu to save your wallet.
Bob Evans Kept It Very Basic

This spot gave a thin but fairly well-seasoned patty that worked okay with the two slices of cheese they threw on top to create a simple sandwich. It is a totally fine choice if you are in a massive rush but there are definitely better and more exciting options waiting for you down this list.
Texas Roadhouse Missed the Mark

You would naturally think a popular steakhouse would nail a simple burger but the meat just was not very memorable and ended up tasting extremely greasy. It did not even come with the standard toppings like mustard or pickles which is a huge letdown when you expect steakhouse-quality flavor on your plate.
Applebee’s Delivered a Greasy Classic

They use their own special grill seasoning which made this beef patty taste really good and it soaked up all that melted American cheese perfectly. This classic menu item gets the simple fundamentals right with crisp pickles even though it costs around fifteen dollars which is getting a bit pricey for a casual lunch.
Outback Steakhouse Served Up Steak Flavor

This thick and juicy patty actually tasted a lot like their signature steaks which made every single bite feel super cohesive and satisfying from start to finish. It is a really solid choice if you are watching your budget and do not want to spend thirty bucks on a fancy filet mignon just to get full.
Chili’s Was a Huge Surprise

The Big QP burger had tender meat that blended perfectly with the crispy fresh pickles to create an amazing texture in your mouth that caught everyone off guard. Even if you are not usually the biggest fan of this restaurant this specific sandwich alone is definitely good enough to bring you back again for another round.
LongHorn Steakhouse Took the Crown

This burger was completely top-notch because the huge patty was cooked perfectly juicy and tasted just as good as their premium steak cuts without missing a single beat. The double cheese did not overpower the smoky beef at all making this meal totally worth the slightly higher price tag because the quality is just unmatched.
