11-Day Flores Road Trip Itinerary: Best Things to Do & See

Planning a trip to Indonesia and want something truly wild and unforgettable. Flores is an amazing island full of hidden gems and incredible landscapes you just have to see to believe. Let me walk you through the ultimate itinerary to make the absolute most of your trip.

Day 1: Komodo Islands Boat Tour

Start your adventure hopping on a boat from Labuan Bajo to see the famous Komodo islands and tiny spots like Kelor. You wrap up the day watching thousands of giant fruit bats fly across the sunset sky which is wild to see in person.

Day 2: Exploring More Komodo Islands

You wake up super early to hike Padar Island because the view from the top is basically the best photo spot ever. After that you walk on a real pink sand beach and finally see massive Komodo dragons up close.

Day 3: Heading Back to Labuan Bajo

Your last boat day takes you to a perfect white sandbar in the middle of the crystal clear ocean. Then you head back to town so you can grab a good hotel and get ready for the road trip part.

Day 4: Trekking to Wae Rebo Village

You leave the coast and take a really long bumpy drive into the mountains to find a hidden traditional village. You hike a couple hours to sleep in crazy cone shaped huts surrounded by the greenest mountains you will ever lay eyes on.

Day 5: Returning From Wae Rebo

Wake up to catch the sunrise over the village and enjoy the peaceful vibes before the other tourists show up. The hike back down is faster so you can just chill at your homestay near the beach and rest those tired legs.

Day 6: Nuca Molas Island and Ruteng

Take a quick boat over to an island that looks like Jurassic Park to see wild beaches and an old lighthouse. Once you finish exploring you pack up and endure another bumpy drive into the busy town of Ruteng to sleep.

Day 7: Ruteng Sights and Bajawa Drive

You definitely need to check out the giant rice fields that look exactly like massive green spider webs before heading out of town. After you snap some pictures you buckle in for a five hour drive through the mountains until you finally reach Bajawa.

Day 8: Sights Around Bajawa Town

There are some really amazing traditional villages near the town where the locals actually still live in the old style huts. You can walk around the muddy paths and see how they dry their crops right in the middle of the village.

Day 9: Hiking Up Mount Inerie

This is the tallest volcano on the whole island and you hike it in the dark so you can watch the sunrise from the top. When the sun comes up it makes a perfect pyramid shadow on the clouds and then you can soak in hot springs.

Day 10: Driving Down to Ende

It is time for another massive driving day but you get to stop at a really neat beach that is completely covered in bright blue rocks. You finally make it to Ende where you can find a nice bed and grab some food before the grand finale.

Day 11: Kelimutu Lakes and Maumere

You finish the road trip strong by taking a short walk to see three giant volcano lakes that naturally change color over time. It is totally surreal seeing bright blue water up there and then you just drive to Maumere to catch your flight home.
