America is packed with some crazy places to visit but figuring out where to go can be super tricky. I put together a list of places that make regular tourist traps look completely boring. These are the spots you really need to see in person because pictures just do not do them justice at all.
Grand Canyon in Arizona
This giant hole in the ground is so incredibly massive that it actually creates its very own weather systems inside. You can take a helicopter ride from Las Vegas to see just how deep and crazy this famous rocky gorge really is in person.
Yellowstone Geysers in Wyoming
The ground here literally feels like it is breathing because there is a giant supervolcano hiding right under the surface heating everything up. You can walk around the wooden paths and watch Old Faithful shoot boiling hot water way up into the sky almost twenty times a day.
Niagara Falls in New York
Around one million bathtubs worth of water pours over the edge here every single minute and the loud thundering sound is honestly unreal. You can jump on an electric boat tour that takes you right into the wet mist where you will definitely need a good raincoat.
Yosemite Valley in California
This giant rocky valley has some of the biggest cliff faces in the entire world like the famous El Capitan and Half Dome. You can drive up to Tunnel View to see the tallest waterfall in North America dropping thousands of feet down the side of the mountain.
Denali Mountain in Alaska
This is the highest peak in North America and it is so ridiculously tall that clouds usually hide the very top from view. Since you cannot just drive your car all the way in you have to take a special park bus to get the best views of this giant snowy monster.
Crater Lake in Oregon
This is the deepest lake in the whole country and it actually sits right inside the bowl of an old collapsed volcano. The water here is so crazy blue and clear because there are no rivers running into it and it only fills up from rain and snow.
Na Pali Coast in Hawaii
These bright green cliffs are so steep and wild that nobody can even build a road here which keeps the whole place looking like a movie set. Steven Spielberg actually filmed parts of Jurassic Park right on this coastline so a helicopter tour is basically the best way to see the magic.
Devils Tower in Wyoming
This giant rock sticking out of nowhere looks like a bunch of tall columns squished together and it honestly looks like alien artwork. People mostly know this spot from that old alien movie but you can actually walk on a trail right around the bottom of it.
Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska
This amazing river of ice is perfect for travelers who dislike long walks. You can drive right to the viewing area without spending money on planes. The deep blue ice goes on for miles. You can even boat on the freezing water to see the big icebergs up close.
White Sands in New Mexico
Picture a huge desert covered in what looks like bright winter snow. It is actually just miles and miles of soft powdery sand. The most amazing thing is how the ground behaves in summer. The sand stays totally cool so you can walk completely barefoot through the heat without any pain.
