The Mile Zero Start
Your journey officially begins in Dawson Creek British Columbia where a famous signpost marks the very beginning of this historic 1,387 mile road. It is a classic photo spot for every traveler and the local museum tells the incredible story of how soldiers built this path in only eight months.
Wildlife On The Road
One of the best parts about this drive is that you can see black bears and bison or even moose just standing right on the side of the pavement. You have to keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready because these animals often wander across the highway without any warning at all.
Soaking In Hot Springs
Travelers often take a break at these hot pools to rest their bodies in the natural heat. The forest stays thick ad green around the water. It might feel like you found a tropical spot even though you are in the cold north.
The Sign Post Forest
In the Yukon area you can find a spot called Watson Lake. This place has thousands of signs from everywhere in the world. People have left them there for many years. You might bring your own sign to hang up on a post.
Driving Through Muncho Lake

Huge mountains start to show up as you drive near Haines Junction. These hills are covered in thick ice that stays cold in the heat. You can see white snow on the peaks even during the summer. It is a very big and open part of nature.
Crossing The Alaska Border
Finally reaching the United States border is a huge milestone that makes the whole week of driving feel like a massive accomplishment for any traveler. You get a commemorative stamp in your passport and the official welcome sign is the perfect place for a final victory photo.
Ending In Delta Junction
You finish the drive in a small place known as Delta Junction. A large white sign marks the end of the journey. Some people go to Fairbanks from there. Others choose to drive south to Anchorage to see more of the wilderness.
