Finding a great steak shouldn’t feel like a chore but with so many chains out there it gets confusing. I decided to visit these spots myself to see which ones really deliver on flavor and service. Here is my personal ranking of thirteen popular steakhouse chains across the country from the bottom to the very top.
Logan’s Roadhouse

This place has a very laid back vibe where you can just relax and eat some rolls while sitting in your boots. The food can be a bit inconsistent depending on which location you happen to visit so it sits at the bottom of my list.
Texas Roadhouse

Everyone knows them for those amazing rolls and cinnamon butter that are almost impossible to stop eating. It gets pretty loud inside with all the music and cheering so it might not be the best for a quiet dinner.
LongHorn Steakhouse

They pride themselves on never using frozen meat and you can usually tell the difference in the flavor of the beef. It is a solid choice for a decent meal that won’t break your bank account on a Tuesday night.
Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea

You mostly find these in Pennsylvania and they have a really massive soup and salad bar that people love. The steaks are okay but most people go there for the huge variety of sides and the casual family atmosphere.
Outback Steakhouse

You go here for the famous Bloomin Onion and the fun Australian theme they have going on in the dining room. The steak is usually seasoned well even if the quality can vary quite a bit from one city to the next.
Saltgrass Steak House

This chain uses an open flame to get that campfire flavor into their certified Angus beef which tastes pretty great. It feels like a real Texas experience and the bread they bring out is actually quite delicious too.
Sizzler

This one is a total throwback to the old days and their cheese toast is legendary for a very good reason. It is a simple spot that does not try to be fancier than it really is which I actually appreciate.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House

The steaks come out on a screaming hot plate with bubbling butter which smells absolutely incredible as it reaches your table. Just remember to dress up a little bit because they usually have a casual business dress code for their guests.
Black Angus Steakhouse

They age their beef for three weeks to make sure it has a lot of deep flavor before it hits the grill. It is a great middle ground for someone who wants quality meat without paying the super high prices of fine dining.
Morton’s The Steakhouse

This is where you go when you want to feel fancy and eat some of the best prime beef available. The service is usually top notch and they make a mean side of mashed potatoes to go with your steak.
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

The wine selection here is huge and it pairs perfectly with their high quality cuts of meat and fresh seafood. I really enjoyed the upscale atmosphere and the way they cook their ribeye to a perfect medium every single time.
Fogo de Chão

It is a Brazilian steakhouse where servers bring different meats right to your table until you finally tell them to stop. The variety is wild and everything is seasoned with traditional salt and flame so prepare for a serious food coma.
The Capital Grille

This is easily the best overall experience because the food and the service are just outstanding and very consistent. If you want to celebrate something special and want a perfect steak this is the place to spend your money.
