Some Tropical Trees Like The Feel Of Lightning On Their Branc

The ecological effect of lightning is quite surprising, and therefore, despite the fact that storms seem purely destructive, there are tropical ecosystems in which lightning plays an unpredictable ecological role. In other cases, the hits are indirectly made in their favor as certain tall and fast growing tropical trees are made more susceptible to being struck. Lightning can clear vegetation that surrounds it, reduce competition and clear the canopy to the sun. In a literal sense, lightning is not a favorite of any tree, yet, there are tree species which are more suited to withstand lightning and even gain after the lightning. 

Lightning Strikes the Tallest Trees

The trees even in the thick tropical forests are the tallest and this is used as a natural lightning conduit. Storms strike them easily because of their height. Even though this can be seen as counterproductive, it tends to reduce competition within the setting. Other trees which are smaller can be felled more. 

The Trees are of better conductors of electricity

The moisture content and internal structures found in some species may get electricity without blowing up the trunk. This reduces fatal damage. They are able to lose a branch or a strip of bark, as well as break. Their physical features allow them to endure things that would otherwise kill other ill adapted species.

Light can be used to wipe the Canopy

A strike may easily break branches or kill other trees. This leaves the canopy gaps in the forest and this enables the sunlight to reach the lower levels. The surviving trees are advantaged by an improved light situation.

The quantity of bark may result in it being thicker and hence capable of covering interior tissues during intense heat in tropical trees. It is not a full guard, but it helps to reduce the risks of internal damages.

Lightning might destroy vines, epiphytes or parasitic plants fastened on branches. This gets rid of more weight and competition of resources. Photosynthesis of trees of heavy plants will be released, therefore, they will have a chance to redistribute energy in healing and growth to improve the stability of the entire tree following storms.

Branches lost by trees produce dormant points of growth. This helps in sprouting of new shoots and new leaves. The recovery process can lead to restructuring and an improvement in the balance especially where light competition is in decline.

It is also possible that lightning can be the cause of chemical change of soil like the production of nitrogen compounds during storms. The close plants can have the advantage of the nutrients that are enriched though the effects are varied. 

Forest Gaps Are Ideally On the Side of Diversity

Lightning brought about gaps open to the growth of new plant species. This enhances diversity. The presence of the trees of survival is another element to create the forest structure as the trees give regeneration opportunities where they are found.

Not All Trees Survive

Many trees continue to be killed. The survival of species is based on species characteristics, size, and impact force. What makes forests dynamic is loss and renewal which gives the ecological balance.

The natural cycle of disruption

One of the forces of nature that recycle forests is lightning. Some of the trees are more adaptable to adversity. This will assist in the health of forests and long term resiliency.
