Welcome to my review where I check out Per Se which is one of the most expensive French restaurants in New York. This famous three Michelin star spot charges hundreds just to secure a table. Today I am sharing information about their tasting menu to see what you actually get for that really high price tag.
The Crazy Reservation Price

Booking a table at this three Michelin star spot will cost you two hundred dollars just to get your foot in the door. That is a whole lot of cash to drop before they even hand you a menu.
Fancy Little Welcome Bites

They start you off with these tiny little cones and a crisp seaweed tartlet that actually taste just like a classic New York bagel with lox. I do not know why fancy places love cones so much but it was a pretty solid bite to start the night.
Slime Looking Summer Squash Soup

Next up they brought out a chilled summer squash veloute that honestly looked exactly like green Nickelodeon slime when it hit the table. It was a thick herbaceous soup that tasted decent enough but the bright green color definitely caught me off guard.
Famous Oysters And Pearls

This is their most classic dish featuring butter poached oysters and fancy caviar on top of tapioca and it was actually crazy good. I usually do not even like oysters but these were nice and warm with a perfect salty kick that just worked.
Confusing Egg Custard Dish

The waiter brought this thick egg custard with truffles and chips. I really did not know how to eat it at first. It was just way too heavy. They were definitely trying way too hard to act super fancy for no real reason here.
Southern Style French Cornbread

The eggplant salad had way too much going on but the Dutch crunch cornbread they served with it was absolutely amazing. Being from the south I know good cornbread and this one was so good my grandma better watch out.
Perfectly Cooked Black Bass

That beet butter bass was a small piece but it was cooked just right. It looked beautiful too. The meat was very soft and flaky. That sauce tied all the flavors together perfectly. It really was a nice and simple fish dish to eat.
Underwhelming Lamb Main Course

The main event was a farm lamb dish that looked a little undercooked and honestly just tasted okay when I finally tried it. It definitely did not feel like a main course from a three star restaurant and left me feeling pretty disappointed.
Free Wagyu Beef Redemption

I told the staff the lamb meal was not that great and they were super nice about it. They brought out some amazing free beef to fix things up. It felt like eating butter and it really saved the whole dinner for me that night.
Endless Dessert Fireworks Display

They hit me with an insane amount of desserts including a fun play on coffee and donuts plus an entire box of assorted chocolates. It was a crazy sugar rush to end a long three hour meal that had some serious highs and a few weird lows.
