Dairy Queen just released their brand new Strawberry Angel Food Cake Blizzard for the spring season and people are really excited. I decided to go grab one to see if it actually lives up to the hype going around. Here are my thoughts on this new sweet treat and what you can expect.
The Presentation Looked Very Fun
When they handed me the cup over the counter it looked really pretty with all the pink strawberry colors mixed into the white ice cream. I was hoping it would look like the pictures and it actually did look very refreshing right from the very start.
Trying The First Sweet Bite
My very first spoonful was mostly that classic Dairy Queen soft serve which we all know is pretty hard to beat on a warm day. It melted fast but I immediately tasted the sweet fruit flavor creeping in right behind the vanilla base.
Finding The Real Strawberries
I was really glad to see they used actual real strawberries inside this blizzard instead of just a fake sugary syrup that tastes like plastic. The fruit pieces gave it a nice little texture change and brought a fresh taste that stopped it from being way too sweet.
Tasting The Angel Food Cake
This was the part I was most curious about because putting cake inside ice cream can sometimes turn into a really soggy mess that nobody wants to eat. The angel food cake pieces actually stayed surprisingly light and fluffy which was a really fun surprise for my taste buds.

They top the whole thing off with a nice swirl of whipped cream that makes it feel a bit more like a fancy dessert you would get at a restaurant. I am normally not a huge whipped cream fan but it worked nicely here to balance out the strong strawberry flavor.

You might think a cake and ice cream mix would give you a massive sugar rush but it is actually pretty balanced overall. Some people might still find it a bit rich but I thought it was just right for a nice spring afternoon treat.
Comparing To The Old Classics
Dairy Queen brought back the Cotton Candy and Smores blizzards too but I think this strawberry one might actually be my new favorite of the bunch. It just feels a lot more fresh and fits the warm weather vibe much better than heavy chocolate or super sweet candy.

Eating this really makes you feel like summer is just around the corner and you want to sit outside on a patio somewhere to enjoy it. I can totally see a lot of people grabbing these after a long day at work when the sun is shining bright.
