I Live in Mexico and These Are the Places Tourists Should Think Twice About Visiting

Mexico is a beautiful country and I am very lucky to call this place my home. Even though it is great I think some popular destinations are not worth the hype they get. They have changed a lot over the years and they are often too packed. You should try to find some alternatives so your trip is actually relaxed and fun like it should be.

The Hotel Zone In Cancun

Cancun has pretty blue water but the hotel area feels like a giant mall. It does not feel like real Mexico anymore. You will pay way too much for things there. Smaller beach towns have better food and cost much less for your trip.

The Busy Town Of Tulum

Tulum changed from a sleepy town into a noisy place with too many cars. Construction never stops so it is always loud there. Simple things like snacks and taxis are very expensive now. You might spend more money here than on a vacation abroad.

Fifth Avenue In Playa Del Carmen

This popular walking street in Playa del Carmen is usually packed with way too many people. Local sellers will constantly jump in front of you to offer tours or souvenirs. The noise is very high and it ruins a nice walk after dinner.

The Ruins Of Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is super famous but it might not be worth the trip because it stays way too hot and crowded. There are hundreds of people selling loud toys and cheap plastic stuff everywhere you look. You cannot even climb the old buildings anymore.

The Main Beach In Sayulita

This surf town is a favorite for many but the water quality is actually quite poor these days. The town’s old pipes cannot handle the massive crowds. The beach itself is also overflowing with rental furniture. You will struggle to find any empty sand there.

The Tourist Center Of Cabo San Lucas

Most things in this area are meant for tourists who like noisy nightlife. Prices are high and you have to pay in dollars for almost everything. It is hard to find any local history when you are surrounded by famous food chains and crowds.

The Canals Of Xochimilco

Riding the colorful boats is a classic activity but the water is often quite dirty and the canals are jammed with way too many party boats playing loud music. It can feel like a giant tourist trap where you are constantly being asked to buy overpriced food and flowers from other boats passing by.

The Border City Of Tijuana

Many people visit here for a quick day trip but it can be chaotic and does not really represent the beauty or charm of the rest of the country. Crossing back over the border can sometimes take hours of standing in line which really ruins the fun of the visit.

The Old Resort Area Of Acapulco

Acapulco used to be the place where every famous movie star went for a fancy holiday. Times have changed and now it has some pretty serious safety issues that might ruin a family trip. The buildings are old and not very comfortable anymore.
