I almost didn’t go to this village because I was busy looking at the famous cities. That would have been a huge mistake since this mountain town is so pretty. Every building has bright art on it and the air is very fresh. It is much more relaxing than the crowded parts of the country. You will love how calm it is.
The Zocalos
Every house here has bright art near the ground. People call these paintings zocalos and they show what the families do for work or what happened in the past. It is like walking through a giant museum that sits right outside in the sun.
Guatapé Rock
You can visit a giant granite stone that has seven hundred steps built into it. Climbing to the top lets you see a massive blue lake. There are many green islands spread across the water. The view from the summit is wide and very beautiful.
Vibrant Streets
I almost missed this place but the bright streets are actually incredible to see. Every house uses colors like purple and yellow to look special. It is a simple place to walk and enjoy. The people here work hard to keep everything looking nice.
Local Food
Small cafes here serve great fish because the town is on the coast. You can sit in the big square and drink some local coffee. It is very peaceful to just watch people. This is a simple way to enjoy a slow and quiet afternoon.

Since the streets are narrow and hilly many people use these small colorful three wheeled taxis to get around town quickly. It is a fun and cheap way to see the outer parts of the village without having to walk up the steep inclines.

You can find beautiful handmade bags and warm ponchos at the local markets. These items show how talented the people here really are. They feel much more special than the cheap things in big city stores. You should buy your gifts from these small stalls.
Boat Tours
Taking a boat out on the water lets you see the huge houses and broken ruins along the shore. Most captains tell cool stories about the old days. They explain how people flooded the valley to make this big lake a long time ago.
Peace and Quiet
Even though it gets busy with day trippers staying overnight allows you to experience the true stillness of the Colombian countryside. Once the tour buses leave the town becomes very quiet and you can hear the birds singing in the nearby hills.
