10 Household Items That Can Be Damaged by Air-Drying

Air drying feels like the thing to do and it is easy but it is not always the best way to do things. There are some things around the house that hold water in a way that changes their shape or the way they feel or work over time. If you know which things need a bit of attention then they will last longer and stay in good shape. Air drying is not the choice for these things.

Bath Towels

The towels do not feel soft and comfortable like they used to. Air drying towels can really reduce the softness of the towels and the comfort they provide.

Wooden Cutting Boards

Wood absorbs water easily. This is a problem because when wood is left to air dry the boards can bend or even crack. This happens when the moisture leaves the wood unevenly.

Leather Shoes

When you let leather air dry it can become really hard and uncomfortable to wear. The moisture takes a time to leave the leather and that is what affects how flexible it is.

Nonstick Pans

When you leave water on your nonstick pans it can make marks on them. Weaken the nonstick coating over time. So it is an idea to dry your nonstick pans fully.

Iron Cookware

When you air dry cast iron moisture can stay on the surface of the cast iron. This is not good, for the seasoning of the cast iron and the quality of the surface of the cast iron.

Microfiber Cleaning Cloths

When you air microfiber it can become stiff. This means microfiber does not pick up dust well. If you dry microfiber gently the fibers stay soft. Microfiber is really good at cleaning.

Silk Clothing

Silk is really good at holding moisture in a way. If you air dry it the fabric can get all stretched out. That can change the way it feels. So it is an idea to dry silk carefully so it stays smooth and feels nice against your skin.

Wool Sweaters

When you dry wool it can get out of shape if you hang it up to air dry. The moisture in the air makes the fabric sag down. If you dry it flat, that helps keep its shape and your sweaters will still fit really well.

Bathroom Mats

Bathroom mats stay damp for long periods when air dried. This affects texture and freshness. Faster drying helps mats feel cleaner and more comfortable underfoot.
